AKO (Army Knowledge Online) offers the Army access to the internet and sharing of knowledge and information with a single entry point. It is become AKO as the Army’s only enterprise that operated in all the Department of the Army. In 1990s as an experimental outgrowth of a project of the General Office Management Office, AKO (Army Knowledge Online) was established.It provides web-based enterprise information services to the United States Army, Department of Defense customers and the joint. There are many a lot of Army which access the portal daily to personal purposes and mission. AKO (Army Knowledge Online) reach one billion of its login approximately in 2008. AKO is well known as the world’s largest intranet.

The United State army has been requiring all users who want to access their AKO email account to use their CAC (Common Access Card) to login into AKO (Army Knowledge Online), it is since in 2013s.If you want to get AKO login with your CAC (Common Access Card), you have to enter your CAC number and PIN (personal identification number). All users who have a CAC (Common Access Card) should migrate to the Enterprise Email platform fully. The enterprise email is an email platform which is created to allow the army to communicate with each other in private network which more secure. Nowadays, the users will not be able to log into their account just from a username and password. All the user of CAC has been mandated by the Chief Information Officer. It is a requirement for all users to have a CAC (Common Access Card) and a DEE (Department of Defense Enterprise email). DISA mail is running on a Microsoft Exchange platform. It is need a CAC (Common Access Card) login on the Outlook Web App Site.

If you have a CAC (Common Access Card) that you can use to access your Army AKO, you can set your account to be CAC only login. You are suspending the ability to use a username and password with your account, after you set your account to be CAC-Only. It is to prevent within eliminate the need to renew your password regularly.  It is alsoto prevent anyone from accessing your account without your CAC (Common Access Card) and PIN (personal identification number).

There are several steps about how to set your account for CAC Only login. You can see below.

1. Log in to your AKO account using your CAC.

2. Open the My Account menu.

3. Click the Change Password menu option.

4. Select the Set CAC Only Login.

5. Click the Enable CAC Only Login button.

AKO webmail is part of the large intranet system which enables its members to keep in touch overall with the Army community. AKO Army has 2.9 million registered users. It is also supports over 350K users logging in up to a million times a day. Every day it can receive and sendemails average 12 million emails.
